童仲彥遭妻子指控長期對她家暴曝光後，還公開向外遇對象示愛，引發國內政壇一陣譁然；不過，他在事件爆發後卻也動作頻頻，不僅在臉書上主動宣布退出民進黨，還向妻子公開道歉，並在LINE群組中營造自己也遭外遇對象「戴綠帽」，而且還被媒體拍到求助精神科醫生。
對於童仲彥的這些舉措，不少人都認為，童仲彥所做的每一步，都是在搶救他的政治生命，希望透過主動退黨與被害者、病患等身分，淡化其家暴色彩與後續效應，而他後來公開向妻子道歉，也是希望能減低家暴的效應傷害。
黨內人士分析，童仲彥一定是在事件曝光後，發現事態比自己想像的還嚴重，雖然家暴在南部地區仍時有所聞，但對台北市民而言，外遇與家暴相比，大家對家暴的容忍度幾乎是零容忍。
黨內人士指出，雖然不能說童仲彥從此與政治絕緣，或許他有可能轉為政治幕僚；但就選舉而言，童仲彥的政治生命，幾乎可說已走到盡頭，明年童仲彥想尋求連任的機會幾乎沒有，因為暴力部分，大家比較不能接受。
